Steve Nash 2013 Exit Interview

If there was one good moment from last night, and trust me, there weren’t few, it was Andrew Goudelock being recognized as the 2013 D-League MVP.

He then went on to shoot 8-17 for 20 points in 41 minutes of play. Not too bad for a guy expected to fill pretty huge shoes on a moment’s notice.

Recap/Highlights from the Lakers 91 - 79 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1.

Dwight Howard led the Lakers with 20 points and 15 rebounds, Pau Gasol behind him with 16 points and 16 boards.

Lakers ended up shooting only 41% from the floor, a horrible 66% from the free-throw line and an abysmal 20% from behind the three-point line. Defense? Not bad. Offense? Let’s just say that we really miss Kobe …

If you don’t already, you need to follow Phil Jackson on twitter.
Unless you’re Pau Gasol. Poor Pau …

Dr. Jerry Buss, longtime owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, passed away today at 5:55 am after a long illness. He was 80 years old.

“We not only have lost our cherished father, but a beloved man of our community and a person respected by the world basketball community,” a statement released on behalf of the Buss family said.

Dr. Buss had been hospitalized much of the past 18 months in a battle which “showed his amazing strength and will to live. It was our father’s often stated desire and expectation that the Lakers remain in the Buss family. The Lakers have been our lives as well and we will honor his wish and do everything in our power to continue his unparalleled legacy,” the statement concluded.

He is survived by sons Johnny, Jim, Joey and Jesse and daughters Jeanie Buss and Janie Drexel, all of Southern California; eight grandchildren; former wife JoAnn of Las Vegas; half sister Susan Hall of Phoenix; half brother Micky Brown of Scottsdale; and stepbrother Jim Brown of Star Valley, Wyoming.

Funeral and memorial service arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lakers Youth Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.

By now news has gotten around that Pau Gasol has a tear in the plantar fascia of his right foot, adding on to an injury-plagued season for the Lakers.
There’s no news yet on whether he will undergo surgery. The injury should keep him out a minimum of 6-8 weeks.
Mike D’Antoni is likely to place Robert Sacre in the starting rotation as center, and the Lakers are hoping that the injury pushes Dwight Howard to return faster from his recent shoulder injury. However, they were give a disabled player’s exception for Jordan Hill last week after he had season-ending hip surgery. The exception would allow the Lakers to spend about half of Hill’s salary, around $1.78 million, to sign a free agent. It could also be used towards the contract of a player received in a trade.
Apparently the Lakers aren’t likely to use that exception, which sounds odd if they’re serious about making a push to claim the 8th seed.
