And then they cried tears of joy.
Click the link for a recap. Wasn’t the best game for Kobe, or the bench for that matter. Good effort for the rest of the guys though and a nice showing after that huge loss on Christmas. You could definitely tell that this win meant a little more to the Heat, but it still hurts to lost one so late in the season.

Is it safe to say that the Lakers are … *gulp* … mediocre? Two straight blowout losses, one to the Bucks and one on Christmas Day might give that credibility. Yeah, this team has Kobe & Gasol & Odom & Bynum, but this team plays terrible defense and seems to exert zero effort at all. I actually thought the Heat were going to win, and opted to just HOPING the Lakers might play their A or B-game and pull off a victory.
I know Kobe said that this game was just another game but it makes me wonder, did he say that because he knew the Lakers had a good chance of losing? Who knows. I actually don’t know anything anymore. There was a stretch where the Lakers had 3 straight baskets off of Kobe/Pau pick-and-rolls, and then after the timeout Phil takes Kobe out. I get you want to rest Kobe but seriously, he’s been playing 32 minutes a game. This is sort of the kind of game where he can go until the buzzer.
And the defense, ohhh, the defense. Ron played LeBron about as well as you can but LeBron was in MJ Mode. (Magic Johnson) But everyone else, it was just ridiculous. No one fought through screens, pick-and-rolls worked to perfection against us and if I could count the number of open jumpers I would but my calculator doesn’t go that high.
Still, I’ve been waiting and hoping I wouldn’t have to make this assessment. I don’t want to seem fair-weather and I wanted to give the Lakers the benefit of the doubt. BUT … is it time that we admit that this season, even though we’re pretty good on paper, we just aren’t as good as we think we are?
