A lot is being said in the media about Kobe Bryant’s shooting. Is it too much, and should Andrew Bynum be the #1 option from now on in the Lakers offense? This was made brought on by a string of three-straight great performances from Bynum, and then of course Kobe’s wrist, or should I say whatever remains of it.
Anti-Kobe fans will say that Kobe fans encourage his shooting and will defend nights like five days ago where his shooting is horrendous, and he keeps on chucking them. They’ll also be eerily quiet after games like last night where Kobe puts up 7 assists, a good overall shooting night, and Bynum has a below-average night.
No one seems to even care about Pau Gasol’s role in all of this. Just last year Gasol was arguably the Lakers most important player for the first few months of the season as he filled in for Bynum. He was great … almost too great, as he eventually wore down as the season progressed. Now, he’s a mere afterthought to fans when it comes to the Lakers offense, when he’s just as important as Bryant, or Bynum.
This article by Dave McMenamin is a great read for any Laker fan (or disliker) who questions who should and will be taking what percentage of shots.
